5 Items you need to start landscape photography

Starting landscape photography is something that is a very beautiful and fun to learn hobby. Picking out gear can be a very complicated process but I am going to show you basic needs for starting your landscape photography journey. Here is a photo I took on the coast of Oregon.

1. Camera Bodies

There are plenty of different brands and prices of camera bodies out on the market I am going to give you a recommendation on one of my favorite cameras. My recommendation is a used Sony ZV E10 which can be found for around $684 USD. This camera shoots 24.2 Mega Pixel photos while also shooting 4k video so it is a very solid camera that can be used for some video and photo. It is also a very user friendly camera with an interface that isn’t complicated. I recommend this camera because of its value for the price and its portability. But I know photography is very expensive and not everyone has 600 almost 700 dollars laying around to start doing something they aren’t sure on. So I also recommend using your phone when starting photography because phones these days are very capable.

2. Lens

Lenses are just as important as the camera body especially when it comes to landscape photography. A lens I recommend is the Sony E 10-18mm F4 this lens comes in at around $382 USD and is a great option for landscape photography especially with its very big field of view. Also this lens is a zoom lens with different focal lengths so you can have a little control over what is in your image. There are prime lenses out there that are one set focal length but they are also cheaper and usually sharper. I recommend a zoom lens because then you wouldn’t have to carry multiple lenses with you. An even cheaper lens I would recommend is the 7artisians 12mm f/2.8 for $149 USD there is one drawback and that is that it is a manual focus only lens so it will involve some extra learning but for the price you cant beat it.

3. Camera Bag

Camera bags are also important because you want something that is going to keep your gear safe from the elements and safe from drops. A bag that I would recommend is the TARION Sling Bag this bag fits our setup so far and has room for accessories. The TAIRON Sling Bag also comes in at $59.99 USD which is a nice price. I like sling bags because they are small and lightweight Also this bag has straps for a tripod which is coming right after this part. Another bag I would recommend that is like a traditional backpack is the K&F Concept Multi Functional Waterproof Camera Travel Backpack With Tripod Holder for $69.95 USD. I like this bag because of its tripod holder thats very important for a camera bag to have.

4. Tripods and other accessories

Tripods are another important part of landscape photography. Tripods keep your camera stable when going to take your photos. Tripods also allow your camera to capture more light with low shutter speeds. A tripod I recommend is the Sirui Traveler 5C this tripod comes in at $109.90 USD which isn’t cheap but is well worth the price with its low weight at 2.2 pounds. This isn’t really an accessory but you need SD cards the bigger the better for SD cards a good size to start with I recommend is a 128 GB card with at least a 100MB/s speed. The 128 GB is not too big but not so small I feel like it is a good starting size. The final accessory I recommend is the PGYTECH Camera Wrist Strap this strap brings peace of mind when shooting and coming it at $25 USD it is well worth it.

5. Getting outside

Half the battle of landscape photography is finding the landscape you want to photograph. Make sure to also be safe when finding places to shoot and make sure the place you are at is public you don’t want to be intruding on others and possibly run into the law. There are endless places to shoot so get creative.
