At some point, you have probably rolled your eyes countless times while staring at gas prices or felt frustrated as you inserted your card into the pump. You are definitely not alone. There are several ways to make owning and maintaining a combustion engine vehicle less frustrating, especially with rising prices. You should plan your week around work, school, and time with friends, not around when your car needs gas. But somehow, that’s exactly what ends up happening.

It’s a cold morning in mid-December, and you realize your gas tank is empty. Instead of spending a few minutes before work enjoying some cozy hot chocolate, you are left standing outside, pumping gas in below-freezing temperatures.

At this point, when purchasing your first or next vehicle, you’re looking for something reliable and safe to get you where you need to go. You walk into a dealership and might not even think twice about your selection. “That one!” you say without hesitation.

Safety, reliability, and your favorite features might also be important to you. Sitting on your laptop with 20+ tabs open, trying to figure out which vehicle fits you best? While that feeling of pulling into your driveway in a new set of wheels is exciting, it probably won’t last when you pull up next to one thing: a gas pump.

In 2022, gas prices in the U.S. hit well over $5.00. For someone commuting daily, that can easily mean $200+ a month just to get to work. Imagine how useful budgeting an extra $200 would be in different aspects of your own life if you chose to go electric, while still having the safety and reliability you value most.

Like them or not, electric vehicles start to make more sense when you look at how they actually fit into your everyday life. Instead of constantly stopping at a gas station, you would easily charge your car at home. That means you don’t have to deal with pumping gas or plan extra stops during your week.

Owning an electric vehicle makes it very easy to “fill up” right from the comfort of your own home. Plug in the charger, let it sit overnight, and when you wake up, it’s full!

You may hear people say electric vehicles have a shorter range. While that’s not entirely true, it can sometimes be the opposite. According to FuelEconomy.gov, a hybrid Toyota Corolla was compared to a gas-powered Toyota Corolla. The hybrid version was estimated at 50 MPG, while the gas version was closer to 35 MPG.

Consider this analogy posted by Tesla on X (formerly Twitter) on May 26th, 2025: “You don’t plan your day around charging your phone, you just plug it in when you get home, are at work, or visit other places you normally go. Teslas are the same.” Diving deeper into this idea, it makes sense. We, as consumers, hardly ever complain about the inconvenience of charging the one device we rely on every day, our cell phones. Electric vehicles work similarly. They are an essential part of modern life, and you can not only charge them at home, but also wake up to a full, ready-to-go battery each morning.

Taking the next steps to purchasing your EV is not a decision that you should rush into. Start by exploring which models are out there. Your favorite vehicle brand shouldn’t be a deal-breaker. Most existing vehicle brands have one or a few options available for you to look into. Whether it’s a small SUV, a truck, or something more budget-friendly, the choice is yours.

When looking at different brands, whether through internet searches or driving around local dealerships, pay attention to things like range, charging options, and overall cost. Most manufacturers and websites let you compare these side by side.

Think about your current routine. Deciding on different factors, such as how far you drive or how often you drive, is also important, and can help you see whether an electric vehicle would naturally fit into your lifestyle.

Many local dealerships provide free test drives, which sometimes offer incentives like a gift card, which can be put toward future purchases, such as putting a down payment on your new EV!

In conclusion, these basic advantages of electric vehicles are scratching the surface of how convenient they can be. Next time you buy a car, consider rethinking the traditional route. Make your next purchase your own, something that truly benefits your lifestyle.
